Chapter 40 – Prize

--- Pandol City, Wenger Entertainment Office ---

Shou’s chi-infused hands shot up and grabbed Fang’s leg. He pulled and squeezed with all his power. Fang’s ankle snapped and a cold wave of anguish and pain flushed his system. He wanted to scream, but he couldn’t. All his breath had left him as the pain had set in.

Fang pulled himself away out of Shou’s grasp and both men dropped to the ground, gasping and groaning from the anguish their wounds had caused.

“You’ve got some power,” Fang hissed. “Too bad you’re using it for the wrong people!”

“Bah!” Shou shot back. “My family needs to eat, and unless I perform, I won’t get paid!”

Fang didn’t say anything after that. Everyone had their reason to be the good or bad guy and Fang wasn’t going to judge. After all, he was far from being a good guy.

“Don’t try and play on my pity, Yuan Shou! You’re staying down!”

Fang pushed himself up on one leg and growled at his opponent. Half of his chi was gone, but that wasn’t the only thing he could count on. His body had become stronger, faster, more agile, and had much better senses. But he had no idea how to use those new upgrades so to speak.

A gunshot erupted from the far corner of the room and a bullet ricocheted off the tableside. Britta gasped as a loud, meaty thud reverberated in the silent office. No one said a word or made to move. No one but Mai.

“I’m on it, boss. I’ll get the bullet out and give her a fighting chance!”

Fang’s eyes moved from Shou to Britta and then to Chao who stood over Johannes. Chao was clutching at his arm, but Johannes lay on the ground, out cold.

“Chao! What the hell happened?”

“Sorry, boss. He pulled a gun from his sock and shot right through my arm.”

Fang gritted his teeth as he stumbled forward. Shou was back on his feet but swaying on his legs. He seemed to have caught the worse of it with the kicks to his jaw. Fang pushed what chi remained in his fists and threw himself at Shou, pummeling the man’s chest. Shou slapped his one hand away and brought his fist up, catching Fang in the nose. Fang headbutted the man, catching him in the right cheek where the jaw had already broken, eliciting a deafening screech. He sounded like a banshee.

“Mai! What’s going on?” Fang yelled as he pulled his fist back and slammed it down on Shou’s collar bone, snapping it. His eyes started watering and blood frothed in his mouth. Fang let go and pulled back, gasping for air. He landed on his shattered ankle on accident and fell over on his ass, crying gritting his teeth as the pain shot up his leg.

“She’ll live, but only if she gets a doctor right away!”

“Lingqi! Call 911, Ran and Lin, hide behind Chao. Chao, incapacitate that fool!”

The girls started moving and before they even managed to get to Chao, he’d slammed his fist three times against Johannes’ temple.
